Bio/Description

Jonathan is a Ph.D. student focusing on modern and contemporary art, especially from the Americas. He is particularly interested in the circulation of cybernetics and systems theories, and the varying social, political, and artistic imaginations they occasion in different local contexts during the second half of the twentieth century. He received his B.A. in Art History and Philosophy & Allied Fields from the University of Chicago, where his undergraduate thesis, “New Forms of Communication: The Boundary-Making Practices of Hélio Oiticica,” was awarded the annual Feitler Prize for Outstanding Undergraduate Work.
