Yixu Chen is a doctoral student studying Chinese art. She is interested in the art and visual culture from the late Ming period throughout the Republican period when artists drew on longstanding visual traditions in China and responded to emerging trends in popular culture in the quest for new modes of expression. Prior to joining Princeton in 2019, she received her B.A. summa cum laude in art history from Franklin and Marshall College and M.A. in art history from Columbia University, where she examined Chinese Pictorialist art photography of the 1920s–30s in Shanghai with a focus on the works by Hu Boxiang (1896–1989) for her thesis.
