Profile

Born and raised in Malaysia, Wai Yee earned her B.A. at Middlebury College in Vermont and completed her M.A. at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. Prior to beginning graduate studies at Princeton, she studied and lived in Tokyo. Wai Yee has interned and worked at various art museums and galleries, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Sweet Tea House Tibetan Art Gallery in London, the Princeton University Art Museum, and most recently the Sebastian Izzard Asian Art Gallery in New York.

At Princeton, she curated two rotation exhibitions at the Princeton University Art Museum: Materials and Formats in Japanese Art (Summer 2012) and Humor and Wit in Japanese Art (Spring 2014). She also co-organized the 2014 graduate student symposium in East Asian art. “Wit and Humor: Playfulness in Japanese Art.” She has recently been awarded the Japanese Foundation Fellowship for Doctoral Candidates and beginning in fall 2014 will conduct research at Gakushuin University, Tokyo.
