Event Description
Through a collaboration with research engineers, our archaeological fieldwork project in Armenia built a custom 3D scanner designed to capture 3D models of pottery sherds en masse. We are still in the implementation phase, but we have already created 3D models of over 20% of all ceramic fragments we have collected. This leads to the question: what do we do with all these data? This talk will introduce our processes, the challenges, and the ways we hope to enhance our study of pottery in the future. Ultimately, our experiment aims to bring digital big data approaches to even the smallest finds.
